About the Company
An established contractor specialising in Cut & Carve, structural alterations and complex refurbishment schemes across London is looking to expand its commercial team. The business delivers a wide range of challenging packages, typically involving structural remodelling, temporary works, strengthening, concrete works, and builders’ work within occupied or sensitive buildings. With a healthy pipeline of projects, they are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to oversee multiple work packages across the city.
Role Summary
The successful candidate will take responsibility for the commercial delivery of several structural and refurbishment-focused packages. Working closely with project and site teams, you will oversee cost control, procurement, valuations, and contractual administration, ensuring projects are delivered profitably and in line with agreed scope.
Key Duties
- Lead the commercial management of various structural alteration and builders’ work packages.
- Prepare valuations, interim applications, and final accounts for submission to main contractors.
- Assess, price, and agree variations, compensation events, and dayworks.
- Manage procurement processes for subcontractors and specialist suppliers, securing competitive value.
- Contribute to tendering activities, including take-offs, cost planning, and budget setting.
- Monitor costs and forecasts, providing accurate financial reports to senior management.
- Review subcontract agreements (predominantly JCT) and advise on commercial risks or obligations.
- Attend site and progress meetings, identifying any commercial implications or opportunities.
- Work collaboratively with operational teams to ensure packages are delivered safely, efficiently, and within authorised budgets.
Candidate Requirements
- At least 5 years’ experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within a specialist or trade subcontract environment.
- Background in structural alterations, cut & carve, temporary works, underpinning, or complex refurbishment projects.
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies within live or constrained environments.
- Confident working with JCT subcontract forms and associated commercial processes.
- Skilled in measurement, pricing, and managing change on technically challenging schemes.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and analytical abilities.
- Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying or related discipline (RICS status advantageous).
- Competent user of Excel and standard QS software tools.
