Overview
A specialist contractor within the architectural metalwork and glazing sector is seeking an experienced Estimator to support ongoing growth and contribute to the successful delivery of complex fabrication and glazing packages. The role offers the opportunity to take ownership of the estimating function, influence processes, and support the continued development of the pre-construction team.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce accurate take-offs and bills of quantities for architectural metalwork and glazing packages.
- Review and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and tender documents.
- Prepare competitive, compliant tenders, budgets, and cost plans.
- Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain and evaluate quotations.
- Attend site visits for surveys, clarifications, and pre-contract reviews.
- Support value-engineering proposals and alternative solutions.
- Work closely with pre-construction, design, and contracts teams to ensure seamless project handover.
- Provide mentorship to junior estimators and contribute to improving estimating systems, procedures, and tools (where applicable).
Requirements
- Experience in architectural metalwork and/or glazing is essential.
- Background in Estimating, Design, Quantity Surveying, or Construction within a relevant trade.
- Ability to work autonomously and manage workload, priorities, and deadlines.
- Confident in reading and interpreting drawings and technical specifications.
- Strong skills in producing take-offs, BoQs, and detailed cost breakdowns.
- High level of commercial awareness and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues, suppliers, subcontractors, and clients.
- Comfortable visiting sites to fully understand project scope, constraints, and risks.
Desirable
- Applicants without direct architectural metalwork or glazing experience may still be considered if they possess strong estimating skills within a related construction discipline.
