Overview

A growing specialist contractor within the structural steel and architectural metalwork sector is looking to expand its estimating team. The business is seeking an Estimator with solid, hands-on experience in steelwork projects. While this does not need to be a senior-level role, strong industry knowledge and the ability to confidently manage estimating tasks are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate cost estimates, take-offs, and bills of quantities for structural and architectural steelwork packages.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and tender documentation to develop clear, competitive pricing.
  • Obtain and assess quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Prepare tender submissions, budgets, and cost plans.
  • Liaise closely with internal teams—including design, project management, and contracts—to ensure alignment throughout pre-construction.
  • Attend site visits where required to better understand scope, constraints, and buildability.
  • Support value-engineering initiatives and alternative design proposals.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of estimating processes, tools, and procedures.


Requirements

  • Strong experience in structural and/or architectural metalwork estimating is essential.
  • Background within steelwork fabrication, construction, or a related pre-construction discipline.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, fabrication details, and technical specifications.
  • Competent in producing take-offs, BoQs, and detailed cost breakdowns.
  • Strong commercial awareness with excellent attention to detail.
  • Confident communicator able to collaborate effectively with colleagues, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Able to manage workloads, meet deadlines, and work both independently and as part of a team.


Desirable

  • Experience with 3D modelling or estimating software used within the steelwork industry.
  • Exposure to both architectural finishing steelwork and heavier structural steel packages.
  • Willingness to support junior colleagues or contribute to knowledge-sharing within the team.
