Reports To: Commercial Manager / Director

Location: Central London

I’m currently working with a specialist passive fire protection contractor who are looking to bring an Assistant Quantity Surveyor into their commercial team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone early in their QS career who wants to develop their skills within a highly regulated, in-demand sector.

The Opportunity

My client is seeking an ambitious AQS who can support the commercial management of multiple fire protection projects. You’ll work closely with senior commercial staff, gaining hands-on experience across cost control, valuations, procurement, and client interaction.

Key Responsibilities

• Assisting with the preparation of valuations, variations, and final accounts
• Supporting cost management and financial reporting across live projects
• Helping with procurement activities, including obtaining supplier/subcontractor quotes
• Reviewing site records, measurements, and progress reports
• Assisting in preparing tender documentation and cost plans
• Maintaining accurate commercial documentation and project records
• Liaising with site teams, project managers, and clients to ensure smooth communication
• Ensuring all work aligns with fire protection standards, compliance, and project specifications

What My Client Is Looking For

• Experience as a Trainee or Assistant QS, ideally within construction (fire protection or interiors advantageous but not essential)
• Strong numerical skills and attention to detail
• Willingness to learn and develop within a specialist technical environment
• Good communication skills and a proactive approach
• Understanding of basic QS processes such as measurement and valuations
• Relevant qualification (HNC/HND/Degree or similar) - preferred but not essential
